Probably the best 9-hole course in Yorkshire. (Definitely to be 13-hole by the start of the 2009 season!)

NOTE = the October Committee Meeting Minutes are available at minutes.

Old aerial photgraphs of the Golf Club site can be seen in the  Gallery.  And, some photographs of the new 3 holes and the lake.
The COMPETITION to decide the layout of the 13 holes has now ended.

The winner was Andy Hanks - his order will be used (with a few last-minute tweaks) and he will receive a prize on the 22nd January when the new holes are officially opened.

"Twilight" golf
Visitors can play 9 holes (accompanied by a Member) at the end of the playing day, no more than 2 hours before sundown. Cost - £7. This is, of course of more interest in the Spring and Summer, when visitors only have time, perhaps after work, to play 9 holes.
The October 2008 and earlier Club Minutes are now available at Minutes and the July 2008 STRI (Sports Turf Research Institute) can be found at STRI.php. For the latest information on our Juniors, see the end-of-season Juniors Report. and the October 2008 Committee Minutes
The 3 new holes - drainage work has almost finished; we should be playing on the course, on a trial basis, after the 22nd January. (See development for more details.)
Drax Golf Club is a private Golf Club, with a 9-hole course, soon to be 13-hole. The course currently has 1 par 5, 6 par 4's, and 2 par 3's; there are 11 tees to give some variety. We are planning a further 4 holes, 3 of which are being paid for by Sport England - see Development to 13 holes and News.

The land on which the course is located was originally used by the Power Station during its construction. After extensive landscaping, including the planting of a large variety and number of trees, the course was officially opened in 1990.
The legacy from the area's history, is a most interesting course with gently sloping fairways and picturesque views which are unexpected as the surrounding area is predominently flat.

We have a total of almost 400 Members, with a thriving Juniors Section of around 40 Juniors, and around 30 in the Ladies Section. We try to keep total Membership to reasonable numbers, to ensure that there is no overcrowding; if there are vacancies, we now allow new Members to enroll at any time, for the full 12 months; there is a credit system so that payment can be spread over a long period.

Subscriptions For the 2008 - 2009 season, increased at the February 2008 AGM, are - adults  £250, family (ie the second or more adult(s) in a family) pay £225. Juniors continue to pay £50 and students (ie over-18s in further education) pay £125. There is also a compulsory subscription to the Sports and Social Club of £24 (£12 for retired persons). Members are now taken on via a "rolling programme", ie golfers can join at any time, and their year will start from that date; there is also a credit system so that payment can be spread over a long period.
